Vertical Garden
Vertical Garden is a design proposal for a family house in Leiden.
In this location the row houses are connected 'back to back' sharing a common parking garage on the basement level, car circulation is restricted to this area.
Since the street is cleared from cars, new relations between the house facades and the street become viable. We propose to smoothen the transition between the public green and the private houses, by creating a succession of outside spaces developing from the ground level and following the verticality of the facade. The public green on the ground level transits into a private vertical garden following the structure of the facade.
Inside the house the transition between exposure and privacy is also taken in consideration. The rooms needing more privacy are located towards the back and social areas in the front.
